A Reception Multi-Skills Festival is a fun, inclusive sports event designed for Key Stage 1 children to develop fundamental movement skills. It focuses on agility, balance, coordination, and teamwork through a variety of engaging, station-based activities.
Skill Development – Activities promote essential physical skills such as running, jumping, throwing, catching, and spatial awareness.
Variety of Activities – Stations may include obstacle courses, relay races, target throwing, dribbling, and parachute games.
Non-Competitive & Inclusive – Encourages participation and enjoyment rather than competition, ensuring all children feel successful.
Teamwork & Social Skills – Promotes communication, cooperation, and confidence among young participants.
Link to PE Curriculum – Supports the development of physical literacy as outlined in the national curriculum for PE.
The festival is often run by sports coaches, PE staff, or trained older students and can take place in a school hall, playground, or sports field. It provides a fun introduction to physical activity, fostering a love for movement from an early age.
